The most used auto carriers is the open, multi-vehicle hauler. You’ve probably seen this style on freeways or outside car dealerships. The trailer portion looks like a metal frame work with two levels. The most common version of this open auto carrier usually transports 6-8 vehicles, the numbers may vary depending on the size and weight of the vehicles. With this style, it’s true that vehicles may be exposed to the elements (like rain or wind or snow) and it’s likely that your vehicle will arrive at its destination a little dusty. However, one common fear about this type of auto carrier is completely unfounded: many folks worry that their vehicles will be bombarded with rocks and other road debris that will cause costly damage. Let us put that fear to rest – your vehicles do not arrive damaged as a course of transport. Nobody would ever transport their vehicles this way if that were true! Road debris does not fly sideways – or backwards – so your vehicle cannot be damaged in this way. It’s possible that road debris could hit the front of the truck, but your vehicle is safely behind the cab so it’s not in danger of anything that might be rolling down the road. (And it is important to note that road debris damage is not a concern, in the unlikely event that there is some sort of damage to your vehicle, the open auto transport carriers we use are all fully insured.)
Another very common long distance auto carrier used by auto transport companies is the enclosed carrier. That’s a closed truck – a truck with hard walls – and your vehicle would be transported inside the truck. The enclosed auto carriers only transport one or two or sometimes three vehicles at a time. Because of the smaller load, it is a more expensive way to ship your vehicle. Many potential customers may prefer to ship their vehicles by enclosed carrier at first, but opt to ship by open carrier after they see the price difference between the two types. Ask us to provide you with an auto transport quote for your route so that you can see the difference for yourself. (It depends on your route the vehicle you are shipping, but transport by enclosed auto carriers can cost up to 50% more than the open version – that’s often hundreds of dollars difference!) And of course enclosed auto carriers (like open auto carriers) are fully insured.
As long as we are talking about money (and in this economy, when are we not talking about money?) it’s important to consider the good reasons to hire an expert auto transport company. Even after you receive one of our recommended auto transportation quotes based on your needs, you may still be considering a more “do-it-yourself” plan. But hiring a professional for your auto transport can actually be more cost-effective than driving it yourself. |
